One edge is decorated with 6 red threads inserted individually between the blue ones.
The piece is constructed like a reinforced selvedge, type C2, except the "wefts" turn around the "warps" on both edges. The "warp" consists of 3 bundles of 7 threads, each of the threads being a Z ply of 2 S spun threads (possibly wool, undyed). The "weft" is blue wool (S spun, paired?) and is wrapped around these 3 "warps" similarly as in a construction of reinforced selvedge, that is with the weft thread turning an extra time around the external "warps". This object may have been used as a decorative or fastening feature in a garment or perhaps as an item of personal adornment.
Textile fragments examined by M.M. Wozniak in November 2017.
