Textile fragment PAS 108/2008

Find spot (context): el Ar 1 necropolis (4th Cataract area), Tumulus 9 (funerary). Excavated in January 2008. Textile found in the fill of the shaft.

Dating: Late Meroitic.

Present location: Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Warsaw. Inv. 108/2008.

Weave: Tabby.

Decoration: None.

Warp (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- brown, dark brown, cream
- 9-10 warps/cm

Weft (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- brown, dark brown, cream
- 8-9 picks/cm

Other features: The threads are overspun. Possibly an edge type A7 with twisted cords (each Z2s, wool, cream mixed with brown). The textile is very rigid.
