Textile fragment with brocaded decor PAS 69/2008

el Ar BTZ 12 necropolis (4th Cataract area), Tumulus 2 (funerary). Explored in January 2008. The burial appears as a later deposition. The original funerary chamber was extended to the north-east.

Late/post-Meroitic (burial reused in the Medieval Period, this fragment comes from the second deposition)

Tabby (ground).

Brocaded bands with a decor of triangles and lozenges in cream (undyed), orange and dark blue (all wool, paired threads). One band is 1.8 cm high, the distance between 2 bands is 8.5cm.

The threads are overspun. Fabric in good condition. Decor common for medieval rural production.
