Shroud fragments PAS 46/2007

Find spot (context): el Ar 4 necropolis (4th Cataract area), Grave 6 (funerary). Explored in December 2007.

Dating: Christian.

Present location: Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Warsaw. Inv. 46/2007.

Dimensions (in cm): 18x8.5, 7.5x5.5, 6.5x9, 11x4, 21x7 (with band fragment), hem 6 cm long

Weave: Tabby and weft-faced tabby.

Decoration: Light brown and dark brown bands in weft-faced tabby on a dark brown tabby ground.

Warp (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- dark brown
- 6-7 warps/cm (ground) and 3 paired warps/cm (weft-faced tabby)

Weft (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- dark brown, light brown (bands)
- 7-8 picks/cm (ground) and about 18-20 picks/cm (bands).

Other features: Fragment of hem. Traces of weing (holes) on some fragments. Small piece with tiny fringes at the edge of a weft-faced tabby weave. Fabric evenly woven, in good condition.
