Textile fragments PAS 2/2007 [a]

Find spot (context): el Ar 4 necropolis (4th Cataract area), Grave 1 (funerary). Explored in December 2007. The fragment was found in the deceased's hand area.

Dating: Christian.

Present location: Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Warsaw. Inv. 2/2007.

Dimensions (in cm): 1.5x8, 10x10

Weave: Tabby.

Decoration: None.

Warp (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- dark brown
- 8-9 warps/cm

Weft (fibre, twist, color, proportion):
- wool
- S spun
- dark brown
- 7 picks/cm

Other features: The wefts are thicker than warps. A fragment of hem sewn with a wollen thread, thicker. Another fragment with sewing in V-shape with thinner wollen thread. Knot.
